What AI Can and Can't Do in This Role
AI tutoring tools (Khan Academy's Khanmigo, etc.) can deliver personalized instruction, generate content, and answer factual questions effectively. They cannot replace the trust, inspiration, and human presence that skilled teachers provide, nor can they handle the social-emotional complexity of real classrooms.
Which Tasks Are Most Exposed
Content creation (lesson plans, worksheets, rubrics) is now largely AI-assistable. Grading of structured assessments can be partially automated. The core teaching relationship — motivating students, managing a room, identifying who is struggling and why, and building the confidence to try — remains distinctly human.
How to Adapt
Teachers who leverage AI tools to reduce administrative burden while focusing on high-impact human interactions are well-positioned. Building expertise in AI in education, instructional design, or educational consulting also creates strong second-income opportunities. Many teachers build tutoring practices, curriculum consulting businesses, or online courses as side income.
